چکیده

We investigate the relative power of the common random string model vs. the private random string model in communication complexity. We show that the two model are essentially equal. Communication complexity is a model of computation where two parties, each with an input, want to mutually compute a Boolean function that is deened on pairs of inputs. Formally, let f : X Y 7 ! f0; 1g be a Boolean function. The communication problem for f is the following two-player game. Player A gets x 2 X and player B gets y 2 Y. Their goal is to compute f(x; y). They have unlimited computational power and a full description of f, but they don't know each other's input. They determine the output value by exchanging messages. Let n, the length of the input, be log(jXjjY j). A protocol for computing f is a pair of algorithms (one for each player) according to which the players send binary messages. A protocol proceeds in rounds. In every round the protocol speciies which player's turn it is to send a message. Each player in his turn sends a bit message that may depend on

The Randomized Communication Complexity of Set Disjointness

We study the communication complexity of the disjointness function, in which each of two players holds a k-subset of a universe of size n and the goal is to determine whether the sets are disjoint. In the model of a common random string we prove that O(k) communication bits are sufficient, regardless of n. In the model of private random coins O(k + log logn) bits suffice. Both results are asymp...

Public vs. Private Randomness in Simultaneous Multi-party Communication Complexity

In simultaneous number-in-hand multi-party communication protocols, we have k players, who each receive a private input, and wish to compute a joint function of their inputs. The players simultaneously each send a single message to a referee, who then outputs the value of the function. The cost of the protocol is the total number of bits sent to the referee. For two players, it is known that gi...

CS 2429 - Foundations of Communication Complexity Lecturer : Toniann Pitassi

• The worst case running time P on input (x, y) is the maximum number of bits communicated over all choices of the random strings rA and rB. The worst case cost of P is the maximum, over all inputs (x, y), of the worst case running time of P on (x, y). • The average case running time P on input (x, y) is the expected number of bits communicated over all choices of the random strings rA and rB. ...

A Low Complexity Forward Error Correction for PAPR reduction in OFDM Systems

In this paper, a Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction technique in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems is proposed. This technique uses error correction capability of channel coding to reduce the PAPR.The coded bits at the input of OFDM modulator are separated into two groups of the Most Significant Bits (MSB) and the LeastSignificant Bits (LSB). The bits are mappe...

On the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack

Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...
